Welcome back to the new academic year at Elston Hall! We hope that you had a fantastic holiday and the children have been able to recharge their batteries!
Purple creative homework books will continue this year and we aim for it to allow our children to both consolidate their learning from class as well as move their learning on. This homework book will be coming home with your child soon – please look out for this! The insert to the book will provide further information about this.
Children will continue to receive reading books linked to their ability from school. Expectations of completing a reading journal on a weekly basis will continue. Like last year, they must be handed to the class teacher or teaching assistant to mark, books will then be able to be changed and the process can begin again.
Children in year 5 will be grouped according to ability for spelling. If your child is working on floppy phonics they will have 3 lessons per week and will receive weekly spellings. If your child is working at age related spellings they will have 1 Oak academy lesson per week and will receive fortnightly spellings. These will be given out on a Tuesday.
Our PE sessions are as follows:
Class 16 – Thursday (as well as Monday PM swimming)
Class 17 – Wednesday and Thursday
Class 18 – Wednesday and Friday
Please be aware that these sessions may be flexible, therefore children need a PE kit (consisting of black shorts, a white top and pumps) in school at all times. As we get into the winter months, children will need an outdoor kit. It would also be appreciated if all uniform (including PE kit and pumps) is labelled with your child’s full name and class. Please can we remind parents that no jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of stud earrings, and in line with Health and Safety guidelines these should not be worn on PE days.
We have a fantastic topic this term linked to space called ‘Mission Control’ and we cannot wait to get stuck in learning about Earth and Beyond!
The gate to the playground will be opened at 8.45am and closed at 9.00am. Late children will need to report to the main office.
We look forward to working with you over the next year to ensure your children have a valuable year. If you have any questions/queries now or throughout the year, please do not hesitate to speak to us. Thank you for your continued support.
