

Celebrating 100 Years of Sir David Attenborough
On Friday 8th May, we celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. During the day, the children learnt about this inspirational man through a range of engaging activities. We used the occasion to focus on our writing skills, with children across the school writing in a variety of genres linked to the work and achievements of this amazing man. Year 5 & 6 Shine at Wolverhampton Swimming Gala
8 children from Year 5&6 competed in a swimming gala held at The Royal School in Wolverhampton. The children competed in individual and relay races against 10 other teams. Overall, the boys team finished 5th and the girls team finished 3rd demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination. A special well done to Evie who won gold in the 50m freestyle and our girls team (Evie, Penny, Ella & Zara) who won silver for their relay. A great effort from all of our team!


Elston Hall’s Young Rock Stars Take the Stage
Elston Hall hosted an exciting Rocksteady concert featuring five talented bands with students from Year 2 to Year 5. The concert kicked off with the Elston Rockers brilliant rendition of ‘Stargazing.’ Following them, Lightning Storm took the stage, with a wonderful performance of ‘Roar.’ The Blackstar Jammers performed ‘Ghostbusters,’ encouraging plenty of audience participation that had everyone singing along! Science Dance!
A fantastic performance from the girls in Year 6, focusing on how a stimulus can inspire you to choregraph a dance. The girls show through movement the difference between Earth, Ice Giant planets and Hot planets in their new topic of Science Dance.


Year 5 Girls Shine at STEM Discovery Day!
Six of our year 5 girls had a fantastic time today taking part in a day of STEM discovery at Wolverhampton Girls' High School. They made slime in science, built bridges in D & T and coded in computing. A great day was had by all and many of our girls are inspired to want to explore these subjects further. As usual, our children were a pleasure to accompany and represented Elston Hall well!


Congratulations to Our Amazing Bridge Builders!
A huge well done to all the students who participated in the recent STEM Challenge! Our incredible bridge builders showed remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills. We are thrilled to announce our winners, who were awarded a special voucher as a token of their achievement. But the excitement didn’t stop there—every child who entered received a prize in recognition of their hard work and dedication. Netball Hub Event
A huge well done to our superb netballers who braved the cold, wet weather to play in the Netball Hub event held at St Chads. Elston Hall took 11 players to play as part of two mixed Year 5 and 6 teams. Despite the freezing conditions, the children played brilliantly. Team 2 lost one match, drew 2 and won 2 whilst Team 1 won 5 matches and drew one. Overall just one defeat out of 11 matches played!


Bringing the Romans to Life!
As part of our new topic, You’re Not Invited , Year 5 brought the past to life with an exciting historical workshop led by Humph’s Histories. The children learned some Latin phrases, explored where key Roman events fit within British history, and investigated a range of weapons, armour and other historical sources. Year 5 Get Creative at Aldersley High!
Year 5 had a lovely morning at Aldersley High School for an exciting art taster session. The children put their sewing skills to great use, creating some fantastic Christmas cards.


Year 5 Writing Workshop
The children enjoyed a fantastic day at Ormiston NEW Academy, taking part in an exciting writing workshop designed to inspire their imagination and creativity. To kick off the session, they watched A Christmas Carol – complete with popcorn – which helped spark ideas. The pupils were fully engaged from start to finish, producing some wonderfully creative writing throughout the workshop. As well as writing, the children explored their artistic side by trying folded book craft.


Year 5 Maths Team Triumphs!
Some of our talented Year 5 mathematicians recently took part in a city-wide maths challenge held at the Girls’ High School. We are incredibly proud to share that our team was the first to crack the code and open the safe! This fantastic achievement highlights not only their determination and problem-solving skills but also reinforces the fact that we have many talented young mathematicians here at our school. Year 5’s Mythical Creations!
This week, Year 5 have been busy using their imaginations to write non-chronological reports about mythical creatures they created themselves! The children invented a unique creature, carefully considering details such as its appearance, diet, habitat and special abilities. They also designed star signs linked to their creatures.

Year 5 Live Creative Writing Session
Our Year 5 children took part in an exciting live creative writing session this week! ✏️During the session, they practised using descriptive language and a wide range of adjectives to make their writing more vivid and engaging. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and produced some fantastic pieces of creative writing . It was wonderful to see their imaginations come to life and their confidence as young writers grow!


Mission Time: Designing Watches for Space
The children's mission in Year 5 was to design and make a time keeping device suitable for an astronaut! It had the basic functions of a watch as well as additional features to fit with the astronaut's life.


Elston Hall Joins Baseball Festival
Wednesday 15th October 10 children from Year 5 were invited to participate in a Baseball Festival at WV Active. The children were given the opportunity to try a new sport by participating in some fun activities helping develop their understanding of a new sport. The children then played a game of Baseball against West Park Primary School, putting their skills into practice. The children had a great time, learning new things and being really actively involved. This was Elston
