The children used the technology of Virtual Reality headsets to explore the Solar System, the Sun, the Moon, a space station and the depths of the ocean. They were able to draw on their knowledge of space from their Science lessons and then use the VR experience to further embed their understanding. The children loved the experience and gained an up-close view of these scenes, accompanied with squeals of delight and surprise as they physically reached out to touch the planets and sea creatures. It was a fantastic opportunity that they all hoped to be able to do again!

Welcome back to our last term in Year 5 - we hope that you have had an enjoyable Easter break.

Our timetable in year 5 will remain the same, however, occasionally changes will need to be made; should this be necessary we will inform you in advance.

For more information about our learning this term, please click on the curriculum overview.

Thematic

This term promises to be as busy as ever, continuing with our exciting Thematic topic titled ‘Full of Beans’ before starting a new topic entitled ' The Rescuers'. Children will continue to engage with all areas of the curriculum through this topic, and we’re eager to dive in.

Our PE sessions are as follows – Week commencing: 28th April 2025

Class 16 – Tuesday  and Thursday

Class 17 – Tuesday  and Thursday

Class 18 – Monday (swimming on Thursday)

Swimming ends for Class 18 on: 19.05.25

We would like to remind parents that children must come to school in their correct PE kit on PE days. The required PE kit consists of:

  • Black shorts

  • A white top (T-shirt or polo shirt)

  • Pumps (or appropriate footwear)

An outdoor kit is also recommended as the weather warms up (fingers crossed!), and a hat or cap would be useful for sunny days.

Please ensure that all uniform items, including PE kit and pumps, are labelled with your child’s full name and class. This will help us return any misplaced items quickly. Additionally, as per our Health and Safety guidelines, no jewellery should be worn on PE days, with the exception of stud earrings. Please ensure your child does not wear jewellery on PE days for their safety.

P.E
Spellings

The phonics and spelling groups which began last term will continue weekly. Your child may be with a different teacher for this and will be given a set of spellings from them. In addition, all children will continue to receive 10 class spellings. Both of these will be given and tested on Fridays.

Homework

Continuing this term is our purple creative homework book; we aim for these to allow children to consolidate any learning from in school and to provide them with the opportunity to extend this learning however they wish with their family.

Reading books linked to their ability will continue, so too will the expectation of completing a reading journal on a weekly basis. As with last term, these should be handed to the class teacher or teaching assistant for them to be marked; books will then be able to be changed and the process can begin again.

A reminder that the gate to the playground will be opened at 8.45am; children should arrive after this time. This will be locked at 9:00am and any children arriving after this time will need to report to the main office.

We look forward to continue working with you and would like to thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions/queries, please do not hesitate to speak to us.
