The autumn term is always a busy time for children in Year 2. In English, we will start by writing about narratives inspired by our inspiration day on Friday 5th September, while also concentrating on grammar, punctuation, handwriting and spelling. Children will have the opportunity to practise these skills across a range of different texts including information texts, stories and poems. In Maths, we will begin the term focusing on place value and securing your child’s knowledge of this. Continuing on from Year 1, we will have an arithmetic lesson each week and will also give children the opportunity to tackle their times table superheroes.

For more information on our learning see Curriculum Overview.

Thematic

This term we will be launching a new topic called ‘Inter-Nation Media Station’ where children will learn about the history of sharing news, create a jingle and develop their communication skills. This will begin on Friday with our Inspiration Day.

PSHEe, MFL, R.E and Science will be taught discreetly.

Year 2 PE sessions are:

Class 7 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 8 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 9 – Monday and Tuesday

Please ensure that children come to school in the correct PE kit for their sessions. Please can we remind parents that no jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of stud earrings, and in line with Health and Safety guidelines these should not be worn on PE days. Children may be asked to remove earrings before PE lessons if they are worn on those days.

P.E.
Homework

Children in Year 2 receive regular homework. Spellings are given out on a Friday and tested on the following Friday. We expect children to complete their reading comprehension homework after reading their books and the questions are usually found inside the front cover of their reading book. If possible, children should complete at least one comprehension per week. Additional creative homework (purple book) is also sent out 2-3 times per half term. If time to complete homework is sometimes limited, please concentrate on listening to your child read, if only for a few minutes each day. Thank you for your support at home.

Residential

Year 2 have the opportunity to take part in a wonderful two-day residential in Beaudesert from Monday 6th July.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher, who will usually be available at the end of each day. Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
