We hope that you and your children have had a very enjoyable Easter break and we would like to welcome everyone back to the start of the Summer Term.  We are ready for a busy term ahead including Year 2’s Residential in June. Just a reminder that the remaining money must be paid by Friday 7th June 2024.

English and Mathematics will continue to be taught daily and focus on key writing skills and mathematical calculations.

For more information on our learning see Curriculum Overview.

Thematic

Our current topic is ‘Going Wild’, continuing from Spring term. After this, our theme will be ‘Record Breaker’ and we will be finishing off the year with our exciting topic ‘Come Fly with Me’.

PSHEe, MFL, R.E and Science will be taught discreetly.

PE

Please ensure that children come to school in the correct PE kit for their sessions. Please can we remind parents that no jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of stud earrings, and in line with Health and Safety guidelines these should not be worn on PE days. Children may be asked to remove earrings before PE lessons if they are worn on those days.

Year 2 PE sessions are:

Class 7 – Thursday and Friday

Class 8 – Thursday and Friday

Class 9 – Tuesday and Wednesday

Homework

Children in Year 2 receive regular homework. Spelling tests will still take place on a Monday. We expect children to complete their reading comprehension homework after reading their books and the questions are usually found inside the front cover of their reading book. If possible, children should complete at least one comprehension per week. Additional creative homework (purple book) is also sent out 2-3 times per half term. We would like to take this opportunity to thank families for their support with homework. However, if time to complete homework is sometimes limited, please concentrate on listening to your child read, if only for a few minutes each day.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher, who will usually be available at the end of each day. Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
