We hope that you and your children had a very enjoyable Christmas break and we would like to welcome everyone back to the start of the spring term.

The spring term is always a busy time for children in Year 2.

In English, we will continue to concentrate on grammar, punctuation and spelling every day, through discrete lessons and as part of our daily English lessons. Children will have the opportunity to practise these skills across a range of different texts including narratives, poems, letters and information texts.

In Maths, we will continue to focus on further developing our addition and subtraction, as well as introducing multiplication. Throughout the term, children will secure their knowledge of number place value and will practise their arithmetic skills regularly. Please help your child continue to learn their number bonds to 10 and 20, as well as focusing on recall of number facts.

For more information on our learning see Curriculum Overview.

Thematic

This term, our new topic is called ‘Land Ahoy’ which is a Science and Geography based topic.

PSHEe, MFL, R.E and Science will be taught discreetly.

P.E.

Year 2 PE sessions are:

Class 7 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 8 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 9 – Monday and Tuesday

Please ensure that children come to school in the correct PE kit for their sessions. Please can we remind parents that no jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of stud earrings, and in line with Health and Safety guidelines these should not be worn on PE days. Children may be asked to remove earrings before PE lessons if they are worn on those days.

Homework

Children in Year 2 receive regular spellings which will be given out on Friday and tested on the following Friday. We also encourage you to read regularly with your child to develop fluency and comprehension of the books they read.

Residential

Year 2 have the opportunity to take part in a wonderful two-day residential in Beaudesert from Monday 6th July.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher, who will usually be available at the end of each day. Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
