We hope that you and your children have had a very enjoyable Easter break and we would like to welcome everyone back to the start of the Summer Term. We hope children are ready for a busy term ahead including SATs, and Year 2’s Residential in July.

In English, we will continue to focus on grammar, punctuation, handwriting and spelling every day at the start of our English lessons. Children will have the opportunity to practise these skills across a range of different texts including information texts, stories and poems. In Maths, we will continue to practise written and mental methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Children will have opportunities to apply these methods when solving one and two-step problems. Throughout the term, children will secure their knowledge of number place value and will practise their arithmetic skills regularly. We will now be introducing children to superhero times table each week and we look forward to seeing children challenge themselves.

For more information on our learning see Curriculum Overview.

Thematic

This term, our new topics are called ‘Going Wild’, ‘Record Breaker’ and ‘Come Fly with Me! Artic Circle’.

PSHEe, MFL, R.E and Science will be taught discreetly.

P.E.

Year 2 PE sessions are:

Class 7 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 8 – Monday and Wednesday

Class 9 – Monday and Tuesday

Please ensure that children come to school in the correct PE kit for their sessions. Please can we remind parents that no jewellery should be worn in school with the exception of stud earrings, and in line with Health and Safety guidelines these should not be worn on PE days. Children may be asked to remove earrings before PE lessons if they are worn on those days.

Homework

Children in Year 2 receive regular spellings which will be given out on Friday and tested on the following Friday. We also encourage you to read regularly with your child to develop fluency and comprehension of the books they read.

Residential

Year 2 have the opportunity to take part in a wonderful two-day residential in Beaudesert from Monday 6th July.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your class teacher, who will usually be available at the end of each day. Thank you in anticipation of your continued support.
