Our aim across Elston Hall Learning Trust (EHLT) is for all children to enjoy mathematics and have a secure and deep understanding of fundamental mathematical concepts and procedures when they leave us to go to secondary school. We want children to see the mathematics that surrounds them every day and enjoy developing vital life skills in this subject.

As a school we follow the 2014 National Curriculum and cover the subjects and topics as outlined in the statutory guidance.

Richard Holmes has curriculum responsibility for maths and he can be contacted if you require further information.

Pupil Voice

I love working with my partner in maths. We can work out problems together and sometimes I support my partner. I'm a big fan of Superheroes. I have improved my times tables  by practising on TT Rockstars!

Reception Maths Parent Workshop

Really interactive workshop. I enjoyed being

able to find out how to do different activities

at home.

Number Day 2025

This annual campaign organised by the charity NSPCC encourages children to get involved in numbers–based activities. Children enjoyed maths games, solving fun puzzles and enjoyed learning about numbers during the day. Mr Holmes also hosted the Big Trust Maths Quiz at Elston Hall. Well done to all the children who took part and well done Elston, the quiz champions! Thank you to our Year 6 helpers who ensured the quiz ran smoothly!

Year Four are loving their Maths Mastery, and applying it this term to multiplication. We are accurately using terms like factor, multiple, product and divisibility and confidently creating representations of calculations.

Bar Models

Bar models are pictorial representations of problems or concepts that can be used for any of the operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In word problems, they hold the huge benefit of helping children decide which operations to use or visualise problems. It is then up to the children to calculate the answer.
