Elston faced their final group fixture at home against a very strong Wolverhampton Grammar School side, and it proved to be a thrilling contest from start to finish.
The game began cautiously, with both teams battling for control and chances were slim. Then, 10 minutes in, Shaye pounced on a loose ball and unleashed a thunderous strike into the bottom corner to give Elston the lead — 1–0!
Wolverhampton Grammar refused to back down and continued to test the Elston defence with dangerous deliveries into the box. Their persistence paid off when their striker reacted quickest to a rebound following a strong save from Olly, levelling the score at 1–1.
With everything still to play for, Elston regrouped at half time. However, the visitors struck again, leaving Elston trailing 2–1 with just 15 minutes remaining. The boys showed tremendous resilience and determination when it mattered most.
Kane burst onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Hugo and calmly slotted it into the bottom corner to bring Elston level once again — 2–2!
Now full of momentum, Elston pushed forward in search of a winner. Teon found space out wide and delivered a perfectly timed pass through to Shaye, who weaved past his defender before smashing the ball into the roof of the net!
3–2 Elston! What a comeback!
We are incredibly proud not only of the performance but also of the positive attitude, determination and teamwork shown by the boys today.
A special mention also goes to several of our Year 5 players who made their school team debuts today — a fantastic achievement. Well done everyone 💚
