Celebrating 100 Years of Sir David Attenborough
On Friday 8th May, we celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. During the day, the children learnt about this inspirational man through a range of engaging activities. We used the occasion to focus on our writing skills, with children across the school writing in a variety of genres linked to the work and achievements of this amazing man. Easter Reading Challenge Success!
Following our Easter Reading Challenge, we are delighted to share that 78 pupils from across the school took part. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading, with so many children embracing the challenge. As a thank you, every participant received a special bookmark to celebrate their effort. In addition, eight lucky children were selected at random to win an Easter egg prize—well done to all who joined in and made the challenge such a success!

World Book Day!
We had a wonderful time celebrating World Book Day in school. The children and staff arrived dressed as their favourite book characters, and it was fantastic to see so many creative and colourful costumes around the school. The children were also invited to bring in their favourite book from home. Celebrating Reading Across Our School!
Our Reading Ambassadors shared their love of reading with some of our younger children this week. Visiting classes across the school, they read a festive Christmas story, bringing the magic of storytelling to life. It was wonderful to see the older pupils reading with confidence and enthusiasm, and the younger children listening so attentively. A lovely celebration of reading, community, and Christmas spirit!

Congratulations to Our Talented Young Writer
Following on from the recent Writing Day at Ormiston NEW Academy, we are incredibly proud to share that one of our pupils has won the writing competition! Mrs Smedley and Mr Cooling from Ormiston visited Elston Hall to present her with her prize — a fantastic selection of books for the classroom. She was also given the exciting opportunity to choose her favourite book to take home. Well done for this wonderful achievement. We are all so proud!

Year 5 Writing Workshop
The children enjoyed a fantastic day at Ormiston NEW Academy, taking part in an exciting writing workshop designed to inspire their imagination and creativity. To kick off the session, they watched A Christmas Carol – complete with popcorn – which helped spark ideas. The pupils were fully engaged from start to finish, producing some wonderfully creative writing throughout the workshop. As well as writing, the children explored their artistic side by trying folded book craft.

Year 5’s Mythical Creations!
This week, Year 5 have been busy using their imaginations to write non-chronological reports about mythical creatures they created themselves! The children invented a unique creature, carefully considering details such as its appearance, diet, habitat and special abilities. They also designed star signs linked to their creatures.

Year 4 Shine in Drama Workshop!
Year 4 were lucky enough to take part in an exciting drama workshop! During the session, the children participated in a variety of exercises designed to boost their confidence and help them speak confidently in front of an audience. It was wonderful to see the pupils engaging, collaborating, and having fun while developing important performance skills. Their enthusiasm and creativity really shone through!

Welcoming Birmingham University ITAP Students to Our School
We were delighted to welcome 13 students from Birmingham University as part of their ITAP (Initial Teacher Advancement Programme) placement. The focus of the day was on best practice in teaching phonics , and our staff were proud to showcase the high-quality provision taking place across school. Year 2’s Exciting Author Visit from Natalie Pritchard!
Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the author Natalie Pritchard. She shared one of her stories 'Sully the Seahorse' with us and explained how to become an author. Children thoroughly enjoyed asking Natalie questions about her books and the life of an author. They also shared some of their writing with Natalie, who was very impressed!

Year 5 Live Creative Writing Session
Our Year 5 children took part in an exciting live creative writing session this week! ✏️During the session, they practised using descriptive language and a wide range of adjectives to make their writing more vivid and engaging. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and produced some fantastic pieces of creative writing . It was wonderful to see their imaginations come to life and their confidence as young writers grow!
