Science Club
This week, we looked at water density and managed to 'layer' the colours of water using different amounts of salt in each colour of water. Last week, we looked at surface tension by dropping water droplets onto different sized coins to see how many we could reach before they spilled.

Rainforest Workshop in Year 4
Year 4 were thrilled to welcome Rainforest Dave to school to kick off their new thematic learning project, Under the Canopy. From the very start, he had the children captivated – and would you believe he’s visited a rainforest over 60 times! During the day, the children had the incredible opportunity to meet and even hold a Madagascan millipede and a tarantula. What an unforgettable experience for everyone!

Science Club
The children discussed what would happen if we put hot water onto a plate of skittles and they thought that the sugar coating would dissolve, leaving the trail of colour. We went outside to understand why the skittles would make a rainbow path and the children learnt that it was because the sugar wanted to diffuse to an area with less sugar, which meant that it would travel in a straight path towards the middle of the plate. We went back inside and designed how the skittles w

Clubs in Full Swing
Fantastic to see children enjoying the wide range of extra-curricular clubs on offer! Children learning about physical reactions in science club. Children enjoying some of our sports cubs. Arts and crafts in Key Stage 1 and 2

Year 2 Visit to West Midlands Safari Park
Year 2 had an exciting and memorable trip to West Midlands Safari Park as part of their “Going Wild” topic and science learning. The children were full of excitement on the coach, eagerly anticipating the animals they would see. During the safari, they spotted a wide range of incredible animals, including lions, antelopes, elephants, giraffes and camels, to name just a few! A highlight of the day was walking through the lemur trail, where the children got within touching dist

Reception - Science Week 2026
As part of our celebrations for British Science Week, our Reception children took part in an exciting and creative science experiment. We began by asking a key question: What will happen when we melt crayons? The children made thoughtful predictions about what might happen when the crayons were heated using a hairdryer. They shared their ideas and discussed whether the crayons would change shape, colour, or texture. To make our experiment even more exciting, we linked it to t

Science Week!
During Science Week, each year group explored a different scientific question, sparking curiosity and excitement across the school. Year 1 - How do bees help flowers? Year 2 - How do birds build nests? Year 3 - How can you tell how old a shark is? Year 4 - What is an ecosystem? Year 5 - What sort of vehicle would be best on the moon? Year 6 - How do boats float? The children loved discovering things for themselves through hands-on investigations, asking questions, testing ide

Wild Tribe Adventures!
Our Reception children are loving Wild Tribe, where they get to explore nature and develop new skills all year long! From building dens to creating nature art, every season brings new outdoor adventures that help the children grow in confidence and creativity. What Have We Learned So Far? Teamwork: Working together on outdoor challenges has helped everyone improve their communication and social skills. Problem-Solving & Creativity: Whether it's making a shelter or using natur

A Jurassic Adventure!
Our Early Years Inspiration Day kicked off with a thrilling journey back in time to the world of dinosaurs ready for this terms topic 'Jurrassic Park'. The children arrived at school ready for a day of discovery, dressed as palaeontologists, ready to investigate all things prehistoric. The day began with a thrilling fossil hunt! The children eagerly dug into the dusting trays, uncovering ancient treasures and learning how fossils are formed. They were amazed by the fascinati

Science Dance!
A fantastic performance from the girls in Year 6, focusing on how a stimulus can inspire you to choregraph a dance. The girls show through movement the difference between Earth, Ice Giant planets and Hot planets in their new topic of Science Dance.

Year 5 Girls Shine at STEM Discovery Day!
Six of our year 5 girls had a fantastic time today taking part in a day of STEM discovery at Wolverhampton Girls' High School. They made slime in science, built bridges in D & T and coded in computing. A great day was had by all and many of our girls are inspired to want to explore these subjects further. As usual, our children were a pleasure to accompany and represented Elston Hall well!

Congratulations to Our Amazing Bridge Builders!
A huge well done to all the students who participated in the recent STEM Challenge! Our incredible bridge builders showed remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills. We are thrilled to announce our winners, who were awarded a special voucher as a token of their achievement. But the excitement didn’t stop there—every child who entered received a prize in recognition of their hard work and dedication. We couldn’t be more proud of our budding engineers and their innovative

Year 1 Become Animal Diet Detectives!
Year 1 became animal experts this week as they turned into poo detectives in their science lesson! By carefully examining different types of 'animal poo', the children worked out whether it came from a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. There were lots of great discussions, brilliant thinking and plenty of giggles as the children discovered how an animal’s diet can leave important clues behind!

STEM Bridge Building Challenge
We have hosted an exciting STEM Bridge Building Challenge, and the results were nothing short of incredible! Children put their engineering skills to the test by designing and building their own bridges using a variety of materials. From popsicle sticks to straws, glue, and tape, the creativity and ingenuity on display were truly impressive. Parents were invited to come and view the finished models, and it was wonderful to see everyone’s hard work come to life. The bridges we

Year 6 Science
Year 6 children learned all about the components and functions of blood. They discovered that blood is made up of four main parts: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. To help them understand this better, the children took part in a fun hands-on activity. They used different everyday materials to represent each component of blood, showing how they all work together inside our bodies.

Year 1 Winter Scientists!
Year 1 became winter scientists! They wrapped up warm and went outside for a science winter hunt in the snow. The children explored their surroundings and used their senses to discover how winter changes our world.

Winter Wonders in Year 1!
Year 1 had a fantastic time today looking for signs of winter as part of their science learning. The children explored the school grounds with great excitement and curiosity, and they were thrilled to discover snow along the way! It was a wonderful hands-on experience that helped them spot seasonal changes and enjoy the magic of winter.

Future Scientists in the Making!
Class 21 had a lovely morning at Aldersley this week, exploring chromatography using felt pens and plants. We then moved on to exploring household liquids and testing for acidity and alkalinity, learning to test and discuss their results. They also spotted where tests had been contaminated and results were affected as a result. We loved working in the Science labs and can't wait for Year 7 science now! Thank you to the staff at Aldersley for our morning.
