Our Year 6 tag rugby team participated in a tournament held at Wolverhampton Rugby Club where 12 schools competed. The team played a total of 11 matches against all the participating schools winning 5 games, drawing 3 and losing 3 games. Year 6 children have been exploring War of the Worlds  alongside history lessons on different wars and the symbolism of the poppy. In art, the children experimented with oil pastels and pencil crayons to design their own poppy sketches. In DT they practised sewing techniques like running stitch and back stitch on binca fabric. Our local PCSO visited our school to speak to Year 6 pupils about social media use and criminal responsibility. The session helped children understand how their online choices can have real-life consequences and how to stay safe and responsible both online and offline.

Year 6 children learned all about the components and functions of blood. They discovered that blood is made up of four main parts: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. To help them understand this better, the children took part in a fun hands-on activity. They used different everyday materials to represent each component of blood, showing how they all work together inside our bodies.

A huge well done to our superb netballers who braved the cold, wet weather to play in the Netball Hub event held at St Chads. Elston Hall took 11 players to play as part of two mixed Year 5 and 6 teams. Despite the freezing conditions, the children played brilliantly. Team 2 lost one match, drew 2 and won 2 whilst Team 1 won 5 matches and drew one. Overall just one defeat out of 11 matches played!

Fantastic work in PE this week! The children showed excellent control, balance and coordination while practising moves. They listened carefully, worked safely and supported one another. We were especially impressed with their confidence and determination to improve their skills. Well done everyone – keep up the great work!

Six Year 6 children travelled to Aldersley Leisure Village to take part in a boccia competition alongside 24 other schools. It was fantastic to see the children learning and playing a new sport against pupils from a range of primary and secondary schools. Despite never having played boccia before, both Elston teams shone throughout the event, demonstrating excellent teamwork and impressive tactical awareness. Year 6 had a fantastic time at Blist's Hill Living Museum, as part of their Geography and History learning. We were transported back in time to the Victoria era, and used our skills and understanding to compare and contrast life in that time and explore the history of the buildings and local landscape.  We visited Victorian shops and businesses, discussed the impact of industrialisation and used our questioning skills to find out more. Class 21 had a lovely morning at Aldersley this week, exploring chromatography using felt pens and plants. We then moved on to exploring household liquids and testing for acidity and alkalinity, learning to test and discuss their results. They also spotted where tests had been contaminated and results were affected as a result.  We loved working in the Science labs and can't wait for Year 7 science now! Seven of our Year 6 children participated in a dodgeball competition at St Chads. The children played 8 games in their group against Christ Church, St Mary's, Bilston and Whitgreave, with 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. Tuesday 21st October 2025 Our Year 6 pupils had a fantastic opportunity to visit Aldersley High School  for an exciting science lesson. During the session, they became real scientists—testing the pH levels of different substances, including lemon juice, washing-up liquid, and more!
