Issue 15 - Summer 2025

Proud to be ELSTON! Empowered, Listeners, Successful, Together, Open-Minded, Nurturing

Dear families,

This half term has been short but very busy!

Our Year 6 pupils completed their SATs tests and we are extremely proud of their determination and resilience. They celebrated with a 'chippy' lunch and enjoyed some time to play! Thank you to families for making sure children were in school early each day and to all children across the rest of school who were respectful and quiet, following slightly different routines to enable Year 6 to complete their tests with no distractions. Thank you also to all the staff who supported pupils, ensuring they were calm and prepared.

We also crammed several trips into our shortest half term! Year 4 pupils had a wonderful time at Conwy! Thank you to all staff who supported this trip. The blog has some wonderful pictures, showing everything they got up to: Year 4 Residential to Conwy | Elston Hall. Our choir also enjoyed their visit to the Halls for a concert! We are so proud of them - they sung their hearts out! Singing in the Halls. We were delighted to welcome the Music School this afternoon as they performed a concert for Key Stage Two pupils. Pictures will appear on the website soon!

Our extra curricular clubs are in full swing - see here for pictures of what children have been up to! Extra Curricular Clubs We are looking forward to more fun after half term.

Next half term will be just as busy...we have Year 1 Phonics screening checks, Year 4 Multiplication Checks and a Year 2 residential as well as many more trips and experiences! I can't quite believe it will be the last half term of this school year. We have a lot planned for Year 6 as they complete their last seven weeks at Elston Hall.

We have some Nursery Spaces available for September - please call school or register your interest here: Elston Hall Nursery Application Form

Thank you for your continuing support - I hope you all have a wonderful half term!

Attendance

We track attendance weekly and monitor any pupils falling below 96%. As we near the end of the school year, these last weeks are vital for learning before the children move up to the next year group as well as lots of exciting events such as trips and sports days. We want to ensure that we provide the best possible education we can and this starts with excellent attendance.

Our attendance remains above the national average of 94.8%. We are proud to be 16th out of 72 schools in the Local Authority. We have also risen to the top 30-40% of schools nationally - well done!

Please could we remind families to inform school of any absences before 9am. Please call 01902 558866. If you are calling before 8am, please leave a voicemail and this will be picked up and reasons for absence recorded on Arbor. Families can now also email attendance@elston.org.uk to report any absences. Families may now also report absences on the Arbor app!

If your child has a medical appointment, please bring them to school before and after wherever possible.

Punctuality is vital to ensure that pupils have a calm and organised start to the day, and can make the most of every minute in school! Please note that any pupils arriving after 9:30am will receive a 'U' mark which affects their attendance.

From time to time you might receive letters regarding your child's attendance.  These letters are sent to many families and are sent regardless of whether you have contacted school or not to inform us of the absence.

Summer Reading Challenge

Sports equipment

Could we please request that children do not bring sports equipment in from home (such as tennis balls). Such items are easily confused with sports equipment in school and are not permitted at lunch / play times as there is equipment already provided by school for children to play with. Thank you for your support with this. If any school equipment has made its way home, please could it be returned to school. Thank you!

Summer Camps

School uniform

As we near the end of the school year, can I please remind families that expectations for school uniform remain high. I appreciate that pupils are beginning to outgrown their uniform however it is important that they still wear the correct uniform at all times. Should there be a particular reason why this is not possible, please contact school or speak to class teachers so that we are able to support this. You will find a copy of our Uniform Policy by clicking on the following link: https://www.elstonhall.org.uk/school-policies/64c7704f-f8ff-45b0-8655-40b9ac42812e

Also, a reminder that jewellery should not be worn for PE, including earrings. If you are thinking of having your child's ears pierced, it would be helpful if this could take place at the start of the six week holiday so that there is enough time for them to heal before returning to school in September. Thank you!

Sports News

Our netball team competed in a tournament at St Chads, playing against 5 local teams. The team played extremely well showing huge development since their first event back in the Autumn term. The team won two games, drew two games and only lost one game meaning they qualified for the finals which will be held after half term. Well done to the team!

A group of our Year 3 and Year 4 children represented us in the Tony McGinn cup - a football tournament held at Compton. Our boys played very well as a team in their first ever competitive event finishing 4th out of 10 local schools! They scored some brilliant goals and demonstrated excellent teamwork throughout Well done to all the boys involved.

PE Changes

As class 18 have now completed their swimming sessions, they will have their second session of PE on a Tuesday. Please can children wear their PE uniform on this day. This will start from the week commencing 9th June. For the week commencing 2nd June, Class 18 will have PE on the Monday.

Lunch

Our regular lunch menus can be found here: Lunches | Elston Hall. Please review these with your children so that they know what is on offer each day. An allergen free menu will be launched soon - parents of children who will be eating from this menu have been contacted.
