Proud Performance from our Girls!

Updated: Apr 23

The girls were incredibly unlucky to lose on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the semi-finals. Alba gave us the perfect start, putting us ahead within the first five minutes, before Woodthorne found an equaliser just before half-time.

From then on, it was a fiercely competitive game, with both sides evenly matched and battling for every ball. Neither team could be separated in normal time, and it ultimately came down to penalties. Unfortunately, despite a strong effort, the shootout didn’t go our way, with Woodthorne’s stand-in goalkeeper, making a decisive save.

It’s impossible to fault the girls. Playing on a full 11-a-side pitch against a team packed with Year 6 players, while we only had four in our squad, they showed incredible determination and resilience. They didn’t stop running, threw themselves in front of every shot, and gave absolutely everything. On another day, they would have got the result they deserved.

An unbelievable group of girls—full of heart, effort, and team spirit. The Year 6s will be hugely missed.

Mr Green, Miss Willis and Mr Turner have loved watching these girls grow and develop, and they couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them. They’ve truly made Elston proud!
