Our Reception Maths Workshop was a big hit, with parents getting involved and joining in fun activities with their children. It was a great chance for everyone to see how we teach maths at school and how you can help your child at home in a fun way! We follow the Mastery Number approach from the NCTEM programme, which helps children really understand numbers, not just memorize them.
During the workshop, children showed off their subitising skills (which is a fancy way of saying they can spot how many objects are in a group without counting them)! They loved demonstrating their number skills with games and activities, and parents got to join in too.
Mastery Number is all about making sure children really get each concept before moving on. This helps them feel more confident with numbers and develop a love for problem-solving.
The workshop also highlighted how important it is to work with children at home. Learning doesn’t just stop when they leave school, and your involvement makes a huge difference. We gave parents simple, fun ways to support their child’s maths learning at home.
It was so lovely to see the children excited about having their grown-ups in school, and we really enjoyed showing off their progress.
We all enjoyed the afternoon where we can work together to help every child love learning and build strong foundations for the future!
