Year 1 - Unity in the Community!

As part of our inspiration day to launch our new topic, Unity in the Community, Year 1 enjoyed a local walk around the area surrounding our school, where they looked carefully for different road signs.

During the walk, the children identified a range of signs and symbols and discussed the actions they tell us to take, such as stop, slow down, or speed up. They also learned about the Green Cross Code and put it into practice safely when crossing several roads.

The children came dressed as people they might find within their community and explained how these individuals help others. They also took part in role play activities, sharing their ideas confidently.

In the afternoon, the children explored dynamics in music and added instruments to reflect different dynamics. They made links between signs in the environment and the sounds created using percussion instruments.

It was a fun, engaging day that helped the children make meaningful connections between their learning and the world around them.
