Our recent school trip to Safeside Birmingham, run by the West Midlands Fire Service, was an unforgettable and eye-opening experience for our pupils. The interactive safety village provided a realistic and engaging environment where children learned essential life skills and safety awareness in a fun and memorable way.
Throughout the day, the children took part in a variety of scenarios designed to teach them how to stay safe in everyday situations. These included:
🚆 Train Line Safety – Understanding the dangers of railway tracks and how to stay safe near them.
📞 Prank Calls to 999 – Learning why emergency services should only be contacted in real emergencies.
🌊 Canal and Open Water Safety – Recognising the risks of playing near water and how to act responsibly.
🚗 Seat Belts and Booster Seats – The importance of using the correct car restraints for their age and size.
🛍️ Shopping Trips and Handling Money – Practising how to pay correctly and manage change during a shopping trip.
🌃 Using Alleyways at Night – Discussing safer routes and being aware of surroundings when walking alone.
🔥 House Fire Safety – What to do in the event of a fire at home, including escape plans and smoke alarms.
