Year 6 Science
Year 6 represented the human heart using play dough to show the correct size and shape as well as depicting the arteries and veins.
The children made a model of the human heart using a cup of juice, a glove and two straws. They put the glove over the cup and made two small holes for the straws to go through. Then, they inflated the glove and squeezed it to represent the heart contracting, and saw juice come out of one of the straws, showing how blood is pumped around the body.
The classes made their own 'blood' by using orange juice to represent the plasma, cheerios and red food colouring to be the red blood cells, mini marshmallows as white blood cells and sprinkles to be the platelets. The children then wrote what the function of each of these was in their books.

The children worked collaboratively in groups to create large posters, showing what they had learnt about the circulatory system during the topic.
