Reception have been putting their scientific skills to the test with a very special challenge, to help Humpty Dumpty stay safe if he ever has another great fall!
As part of their learning about nursery rhymes, the children became young scientists and engineers, investigating how to protect an egg from breaking.
Their mission: to design and make a helmet for Humpty Dumpty!
The children explored a variety of different materials, discussing which ones will keep Humpty safe, and protect him from bumps and cracks. Working in pairs, they designed their helmets carefully, thinking about which materials would work best. Once their creations were ready, it was time to put them to the test!
Everyone gathered at the top of the hill for the big experiment. Each team stood behind the line to make it a fair test before gently throwing their protected “Humptys” down the hill. The children made predictions, observed carefully, and discovered which materials offered the best protection.
There was plenty of excitement (and a few cracks along the way!), but most importantly, lots of egg-cellent scientific thinking, teamwork, and laughter.
What a cracking way to explore science in action!
