Year 3 had an unforgettable day at Tanglewood as they stepped back in time to deepen their learning about the Stone Age. The children began by grouping themselves into tribes, each choosing a unique tribe name and decorating their cheeks with matching colours—just like real Stone Age hunters! Well done to our 9 a side girls football team who played a tough Bilston side. The girls were excellent showing brilliant passing, dribbling and teamwork skills resulting in another win, this time scoring 3 goals. Great goals from Alba, Daniella and Heidi saw us claim the 3 points. Special shout out to our defence and goalkeeper who yet again didn't conceded a single goal! What a talented group of players we have! 💚

Elston 7 a side boys football team competed against 26 other schools from across the district. The boys were brilliant topping the group winning 5 games and drawing one. They then beat Bhylls Acre 1-0 in a tightly contested semi final. The boys then went through to the final where they met St Stephen's, the game eventually went to penalties where Ollie made a fantastic save which gave us the best possible chance. Kane scored the decisive penalty to crown us as Blakemore Cup 7

This week, Year 5 have been busy using their imaginations to write non-chronological reports about mythical creatures they created themselves! The children invented a unique creature, carefully considering details such as its appearance, diet, habitat and special abilities. They also designed star signs linked to their creatures.

Year 6 had a fantastic time at Blist's Hill Living Museum, as part of their Geography and History learning. We were transported back in time to the Victoria era, and used our skills and understanding to compare and contrast life in that time and explore the history of the buildings and local landscape. Year 4 were lucky enough to take part in an exciting drama workshop! During the session, the children participated in a variety of exercises designed to boost their confidence and help them speak confidently in front of an audience. It was wonderful to see the pupils engaging, collaborating, and having fun while developing important performance skills. Their enthusiasm and creativity really shone through!

We were delighted to welcome 13 students from Birmingham University as part of their ITAP (Initial Teacher Advancement Programme) placement. The focus of the day was on best practice in teaching phonics , and our staff were proud to showcase the high-quality provision taking place across school. Year 2 thoroughly enjoyed their visit from the author Natalie Pritchard. She shared one of her stories 'Sully the Seahorse' with us and explained how to become an author. Children thoroughly enjoyed asking Natalie questions about her books and the life of an author. They also shared some of their writing with Natalie, who was very impressed!

Well done to our Athletics team who won finished 1st place out of 5 schools at their hub event last night. Elston got an amazing 1750 points which is a record amount of points ever for that hub event. We are so proud of them, they now go on to represent us at the Athletics finals! Well done everyone 💚

Class 21 had a lovely morning at Aldersley this week, exploring chromatography using felt pens and plants. We then moved on to exploring household liquids and testing for acidity and alkalinity, learning to test and discuss their results. They also spotted where tests had been contaminated and results were affected as a result. We loved working in the Science labs and can't wait for Year 7 science now! Early Years have had SO much fun celebrating World Nursery Rhyme Week! We joined together as a Trust to sing our favourite nursery rhymes to each other via TEAMs — it was wonderful to see everyone joining in with such enthusiasm. The children looked absolutely fantastic in their costumes and loved every moment of their special day! Even the teachers got involved, dressing up as their favourite nursery rhyme characters.

The children really enjoyed playing a lively game of tag-rugby this week! Through this activity, they are developing a range of important skills. Physically, they’re improving their coordination, agility, and reaction times. Socially, they’re learning teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship. Cognitively, they’re building focus, quick thinking, and strategic decision-making. It’s wonderful to see everyone having fun while learning and staying active!

Seven of our Year 6 children participated in a dodgeball competition at St Chads. The children played 8 games in their group against Christ Church, St Mary's, Bilston and Whitgreave, with 6 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. The children topped their group to progress to the quarter finals where they unfortunately lost in a competitive game against Wodensfield. A big congratulations to our amazing cheerleaders who represented Elston at the City Diversity Celebration at the Halls in Wolverhampton! They performed in front of a large audience alongside many other schools—and stood out as the only cheerleaders at the event. The Elston All Stars thrilled the audience with an energetic mash-up of music, showcasing their talent, team spirit, and dedication. We couldn’t be prouder of their outstanding performance!

This week in Drawing Club, the children took part in a special Remembrance Day activity. They followed step-by-step instructions to draw a soldier and a poppy, learning how simple shapes can come together to create a meaningful picture. The children showed great focus and care as they drew, using their artwork to reflect on the importance of remembering those who have served.
