Our sports ambassadors have awarded 298 Wow badges for April. Children can continue to carry out their active travelling and remembering to log this each day in class to earn their next badge. Children only have to do one active type of travelling per week to earn a badge. Don't forget to send photos of your children actively travelling to school to add to our gallery!

At Fun and Games Club, the children had a fantastic time making boats using coloured A4 paper. They carefully designed and decorated their boats before putting them to the test in exciting races across the tables! The children competed to see whose boat could travel the fastest by blowing them across the table. There was lots of laughter, teamwork, and creativity throughout the activity, and everyone had so much fun taking part.

A big shout out to one of our Year 1 children who, before coming to school this morning, chose to spend part of her birthday picking up litter in her community. How amazing is that? 🌍💚 🌍💚

This week, we looked at water density and managed to 'layer' the colours of water using different amounts of salt in each colour of water. Last week, we looked at surface tension by dropping water droplets onto different sized coins to see how many we could reach before they spilled.

On Friday 8th May, we celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough. During the day, the children learnt about this inspirational man through a range of engaging activities. Our children have been having a fantastic time in Computer Club using Studio.code.org to explore the world of coding. Through fun, interactive activities, the children have been learning the basics of coding while developing problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork skills.

Year 3 kicked off their new topic with an exciting Egyptian Day! We have been focusing on hieroglyphics, exploring the fascinating world of ancient Egyptian writing, and even creating our own symbols. As part of the day, we went on a scavenger hunt, searching for answers to questions all about Egypt. It was a fun way to learn and explore the mysteries of this incredible civilization! Year 4 were thrilled to welcome Rainforest Dave to school to kick off their new thematic learning project, Under the Canopy. From the very start, he had the children captivated – and would you believe he’s visited a rainforest over 60 times! During the day, the children had the incredible opportunity to meet and even hold a Madagascan millipede and a tarantula. What an unforgettable experience for everyone!

8 children from Year 5&6 competed in a swimming gala held at The Royal School in Wolverhampton. The children competed in individual and relay races against 10 other teams. Overall, the boys team finished 5th and the girls team finished 3rd demonstrating excellent teamwork and determination. A special well done to Evie who won gold in the 50m freestyle and our girls team (Evie, Penny, Ella & Zara) who won silver for their relay. A great effort from all of our team!

The children discussed what would happen if we put hot water onto a plate of skittles and they thought that the sugar coating would dissolve, leaving the trail of colour. We went outside to understand why the skittles would make a rainbow path and the children learnt that it was because the sugar wanted to diffuse to an area with less sugar, which meant that it would travel in a straight path towards the middle of the plate. The girls were incredibly unlucky to lose on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the semi-finals. Alba gave us the perfect start, putting us ahead within the first five minutes, before Woodthorne found an equaliser just before half-time. Following our Easter Reading Challenge, we are delighted to share that 78 pupils from across the school took part. It was wonderful to see such enthusiasm for reading, with so many children embracing the challenge. As a thank you, every participant received a special bookmark to celebrate their effort. In addition, eight lucky children were selected at random to win an Easter egg prize—well done to all who joined in and made the challenge such a success!

We are incredibly proud of our girls’ football team! After a fantastic group stage, winning all four games, they faced a tough Uplands Primary School side in the quarter-finals.
